Water Supply Studies

SPF Water Engineering has broad expertise and experience in evaluating surface water and ground water availability and quality for municipal, agricultural, industrial, and private water users.

Water Supply Evaluations

Water supply evaluations are often needed to develop new ground water resources or obtain  water-right and water-system regulatory approval.  SPF has conducted many such water supply evaluations for a wide variety of private and public entities.  Water supply evaluations are designed to answer specific questions, but often include estimating water requirements, reviewing relevant water right information, and projecting water availability based on hydrogeologic characteristics, existing well capacities, water level trends, potential well interference, water quality characteristics, and more.  SPF maintains an extensive library of published reports and other information for use in water supply evaluations.

Well Interference
Pumping of an existing or proposed new well can impact water levels in nearby wells.  SPF evaluates such effects based on local hydrogeologic conditions, water level trends, pumping rates, and other factors using proven tools that are accepted by regulators.  Such analyses may be part of a water supply evaluation or conducted separately.

Water Quality Assessments
Through years of experience and familiarity with regional water quality characteristics, SPF provides clients with thorough, efficient, and cost-effective water quality assessment solutions to meet specific project goals.

Hydrogeologic Investigations
SPF conducts detailed hydrogeologic investigations, both locally and regionally, to evaluate ground water availability, flow characteristics, and quality.  Often, these investigations are conducted as part of water supply evaluations or related water supply questions.

Ground Water Modeling
SPF uses analytical and computer models to simulate local- and regional-scale ground water flow, ground water levels, and contaminant transport.  Such models are especially useful for evaluating the effects of proposed pumping changes on ground water levels or simulating the effects of surface and ground water interaction.

Stream Flow Measurements
SPF measures flow rates and seepage losses to collect information in support of water rights investigations, water supply evaluations and water quality assessments using a variety of techniques and equipment, including USGS-standards.  We also have extensive experience installing permanent measurement structures such as weirs and flumes.
