Aquifer Modeling

Choosing the right tools to analyze a problem is critical to the success of a modeling project. Oftentimes, a simple analytical or statistical model is sufficient to answer the question at hand. At SPF, we have a great deal of experience with these simple, low-cost models and the ability to utilize these tools to address regulatory or other concerns, without the need for more complex models.

When faced with a more complex problem or challenge, a numerical computer model is often the best tool. These numerical models can analyze complex ground water and surface water flow processes.

Simple models, such as analytical or statistical models, or numerical models can be used to evaluate:

Current or potential future pumping impacts
Water right issues
Water quality concerns and
The magnitude of surface channel flows

Our staff has extensive experience constructing models to simulate ground water flow on local and regional scales. Our staff has used models to evaluate water rights matters in the Treasure Valley and Eastern Snake River Plain to assess potential impacts of industrial water re-use, to simulate geothermal flow in the Boise Front geothermal aquifer, and to determine channel and culvert capacities.
